SHEPHERD OFFERING SUMMER CAMPS (4-4-2013)

The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

NCAA ADDS MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE AS NEWEST DIVISION II LEAGUE (2-15-2013)

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE FILES WITH NCAA (12-4-2012)

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

SHEPHERD WOMEN’S SOCCER TRIO EARNS ALL-WVIAC HONORS (11-6-2012)

Three members of the Shepherd University women’s soccer team have been named to the 2012 All-WVIAC Women’s Soccer Team. Sophomore midfielder Kasey Canterbury (Berryville, VA/Clarke County) earned first team honors, junior defender Erika Martin (Germantown, MD/Northwest) was a second team choice, while junior forward Morgan Gabriel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) gained honorable mention accolades.

University of Charleston held on for a 2-1 win over Shepherd University in first round action of the WVIAC Women’s Soccer Tournament on Sunday.

GABRIEL LEADS SHEPHERD TO 1-0 WIN OVER OHIO VALLEY (10-25-2012)

 Junior forward Morgan Gabriel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored the game’s only goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Kasey Canterbury (Berryville, VA/Clarke County) at the 19:07 mark to lift Shepherd University to a 1-0 win over Ohio Valley in WVIAC women’s soccer action at Ohio Valley on Thursday. The win lifted Shepherd into fourth place in the final WVIAC regular season standings as the Rams will host fifth-seeded University of Charleston on Monday at a yet to be determined time and site.

The Shepherd University soccer teams will be hosting Chowan University for Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday. The Rams will be wearing pink jerseys for the games. The women's game begins at 1 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 3 p.m.

FOURTEEN RAMS NAMED TO WVIAC COMMISSIONER'S HONOR ROLL (6-22-2012)

Fourteen Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2011-12 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

NEW CONFERENCE FORMATION SOUGHT (6-18-2012)

The presidents of eight universities in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania announced on Monday, June 18, 2012, that they will create a new all-sports athletic conference and seek membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The Shepherd University Women’s Athletic Alliance recently sponsored and hosted a recruiting information session in the Shepherd University Wellness Center on January 28. The session, which was directed to area student athletes in grades 9-12, parents, and coaches, was beneficial in spreading information about specific sports here at Shepherd. It also addressed specific questions about recruiting, financial aid, admissions, and NCAA rules in the recruiting process.
