WEST LIBERTY RALLIES PAST SHEPHERD WOMEN, 74-61 (11-22-2008)
Katie Warehime had 21 points against West Liberty.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Laura Malernee scored 19 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to lead West Liberty to a 74-61 win over Shepherd in WVIAC women’s basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
Malernee was 7-of-15 from the floor for the game with all her shots coming from three-point range. She hit six treys in the second half as the Hilltoppers rallied from a 37-27 halftime deficit.
 
Tori Hansen added 16 points and a game-high nine assists, while Cassie Smith tossed in 14 points. Meghan Wiseman grabbed agame-high 11 boards.
 
Shepherd was led by and senior forward Katie Warehime (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown/Fairleigh Dickinson) with 21 points and six rebounds.
 

Senior guard Krissy Grosselin (Dayton, OH/Ramstein {Germany}) added nine points, while sophomore guard Jerica Hewett (Keedysville, MD/Boonsboro) turned in a nice all-around effort with six points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Freshman forward Shelby Fayak (Willowick, OH/Eastlake North) added seven points and eight rebounds in only 22 minutes of action.

Shepherd falls to 1-3, while West Liberty improves to 2-2. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Columbia Union for a 6 p.m. contest.
