SHEPHERD FOOTBALL RECRUITS PLAY IN BIG 33 ALL-STAR GAME (6-19-2013)

Four incoming recruits for the Shepherd University football team recently played in the Big 33 Football Classic at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. The well-known all-star game featured teams from Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Shepherd University director of athletics B.J. Pumroy recently announced several award winners for the 2012-13 year.

SHEPHERD FOOTBALL TO HOST GOLF OUTING (6-5-2013)

The Shepherd University football team will be hosting their annual golf outing at the Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, Maryland, on July 12, 2013. The day will include golf, carts, prizes, gift packet, assorted beverages (at lunch) and a barbecue dinner for each foursome.

FRICK NAMED TO THE NFF HAMPSHIRE HONOR SOCIETY (5-3-2013)

Senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football seniors from all divisions of play who maintained a 3.2 GPA or better.

RAM GRIDIRON EVENT CHANGE FOR SATURDAY (4-4-2013)

The Ram Gridiron Club event initially planned for Saturday (April 6) in the lobby of Erma Ora Bryd Center at 9 a.m. has been changed. The Ram Gridiron Club meet and greet will be from 10-11:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Shepherd University Dining Hall.

SHEPHERD OFFERING SUMMER CAMPS (4-4-2013)

The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

Bidding on the opportunity to be a guest offensive or defensive coordinator for this Saturday's Spring Game is coming to a close. Bidding ends today at 5 p.m.

SHEPHERD FOOTBALL TO HOLD SPRING SCRIMMAGES (3-28-2013)

The Shepherd University football team will host three scrimmages over the next few weeks. The Rams will scrimmage on Friday (March 29) at 4:30 p.m. The annual Spring Game will be on Saturday, April 6 with a noon kickoff. The final scrimmage will be on Friday, April 12 at a yet to be determined time. All scrimmages will be at Ram Stadium.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Shepherd University Football Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. Tickets are $25 per person.

Shepherd football will be auctioning off four opportunities to not only be inside the huddle, but call the plays that the Shepherd offense and defense will be running during the Shepherd Spring Game on Saturday, April 6, 2013. SHEPHERD FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES SIGNEES (3-8-2013)

Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater announced that 26 student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2013. Among the group are 13 from Maryland, eight from Virginia, two from West Virginia, and one each from Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

STERATORE NAMED MEC SUPERVISOR OF FOOTBALL OFFICIALS (2-25-2013)

 The Mountain East Conference has announced the hiring of National Football League referee Gene Steratore, Jr. as its first Supervisor of Football Officials. The 30-year officiating veteran will be in charge of selecting, training, evaluating and assigning all officials for every football game hosted by MEC member schools when the league’s inaugural season kicks off in the fall. Steratore will begin his duties immediately.

NCAA ADDS MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE AS NEWEST DIVISION II LEAGUE (2-15-2013)

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

SHEPHERD ANNOUNCES 2013 FOOTBALL SLATE; MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE RELEASES 2013 AND 2014 FOOTBALL SCHEDULES (2-1-2013)

Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater has announced the 2013 football schedule. The 10-game slate includes five home games. The 2013 and 2014 Mountain East Conference football schedules have also been released.
 

LOWE NAMED TO BSN COLLEGIATE SHOWCASE ROSTER (1-30-2013)

Senior wide receiver Larry Lowe (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the roster for the 2013 BSN Collegiate Showcase. The event will take place March 8-10 at the Stile Athletic Field House in Akron, Ohio. Lowe joins Shepherd tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) on the roster.

Senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the roster for the 2013 BSN Collegiate Showcase. The event will take place March 8-10 at the Stile Athletic Field House in Akron, Ohio.

ROBINSON NAMED TO 2012 DON HANSEN NCAA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICA TEAM (1-18-2013)

Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) of the Shepherd University football team was named to the 2012 Don Hansen Division II All-America Team. Robinson was a second team selection.

SIX RAMS GAIN ALL-REGION HONORS (1-8-2013)

Six members of the Shepherd University football team have been named to the 2012 Don Hansen Football Gazette Division II All-Super Region One team. Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) garnered first team honors, sophomore offensive lineman Isaiah Shelton (Temple Hills, MD/Charles H. Flowers) gained second team honors, while senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim), senior linebacker A.J. Parrish (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County), junior defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom), and junior defensive lineman Mike Franklin (Silver Spring, MD/Long Reach) earned third team honors.
 

SHEPHERD FOOTBALL RANKED 25TH IN FINAL AFCA POLL (12-17-2012)

The Shepherd University football team is ranked 25th in the final 2012 AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll. Shepherd posted an 8-3 mark as WVIAC champions and advanced to the first round of the NCAA II Football Championship before falling to Indiana (Pa.), who finished seventh in the poll.

HAYES GARNERS ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HONORS (12-5-2012)

Junior defensive lineman Robert Hayes (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the first Shepherd football player to gain Academic All-America® honors since Ron Branch in 1997.

MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE FILES WITH NCAA (12-4-2012)

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

ROBINSON GAINS ALL-REGION HONORS (11-29-2012)

Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the 2012 Daktronics, Inc., Division II All-Super Region 1 football team as selected by the region’s sports information directors. Robinson gained first team honors.

FORMER SHEPHERD ASSISTANT PATRICK HIGGINS NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH AT PURDUE (11-26-2012)

Former Shepherd football assistant Patrick Higgins has been named interim head football coach at Purdue University.

#25 SHEPHERD FOOTBALL FALLS AT #11 IUP (11-17-2012)

Shepherd University dropped a 27-17 decision to #11 Indiana University of Pennsylvania in first round action of the NCAA II Football Championship at George P. Miller Stadium on Saturday.

FIFTEEN RAMS GAIN ALL-WVIAC HONORS (11-13-2012)

Fifteen members of the 2012 WVIAC Champion Shepherd University football team were named to the 2012 All-WVIAC Football Team as voted on by the league’s coaches.

SHEPHERD TIED FOR 25TH IN AFCA POLL (11-12-2012)

The Shepherd University football team is tied for 25th in the latest 2012 AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll for November 12. The Rams recorded a 49-23 win over Fairmont State on Saturday to improve to 8-2 on the year.

SHEPHERD ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTED FOUR LAST FRIDAY (11-12-2012)

The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame inducted four new members last Friday night at the annual induction banquet at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. Football standout Joe Reel ’72, Vic Holmes ’74 (men’s basketball, baseball), Greg Stup ’96 (football), joined women’s basketball coach Jodie Runner as the 27th class to be inducted. The "fabulous four" bring the total number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 129.

 
 
SHEPHERD FOOTBALL TO TRAVEL TO IUP ON SATURDAY (11-11-2012)

The sixth-seeded Shepherd University football team will travel to face third-seeded Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Football championships on Saturday, November 17 at George P. Miller Stadium.

SHEPHERD HANDLES FAIRMONT STATE; RAMS CLINCH OUTRIGHT WVIAC TITLE (11-10-2012)

Senior quarterback Bobby Cooper (Davidsonville, MD/South River)  completed 27-of-38 passes for a school-record 430 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 49-23 win over Fairmont State in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday. Shepherd clinched the WVIAC title with the victory.

Freshman running back Allen Cross (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) rushed for three touchdowns and senior outside linebacker Dominic Tolson (Forestville, MD/Central) (right) had a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown with 46 seconds left in the game to lead Shepherd University to a 34-23 win over Glenville State in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday. The win assured Shepherd a share of the WVIAC title.

SHEPHERD INVITES YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO GLENVILLE STATE GAME (10-29-2012)

Saturday’s home football game versus Glenville State will help determine the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship as both teams enter with a 5-1 conference record. In helping to bring more excitement to the game the Shepherd University department of athletics is inviting all youth football players grade 8 and younger to the game on Saturday. All youth football players grade 8 and younger will receive complimentary admission into the game by wearing their game jersey. Kickoff is set for noon.

REUNION DATE SET FOR FAIRMONT STATE GAME (10-18-2012)

The Shepherd University department of athletics announced today the reunion date for the 1972, 1982, and 1992 WVIAC Football Championship teams. Members of the ’72, ’82, and ’92 teams are invited back to Ram Stadium to be recognized for their achievement on November 10 when Shepherd hosts Fairmont State for Hall of Fame Weekend/Senior Day.

SHEPHERD ADDS FOUR TO ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME (6-27-2012)

The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members this fall at the annual induction banquet on Friday, November 9 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. Football standout Joe Reel ’72, Vic Holmes ’74 (men’s basketball, baseball), Greg Stup ’96 (football), join women’s basketball coach Jodie Runner as the 27th class to be inducted. The "fabulous four" bring the total number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 129.

FOURTEEN RAMS NAMED TO WVIAC COMMISSIONER'S HONOR ROLL (6-22-2012)

Fourteen Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2011-12 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

SHEPHERD FOOTBALL TO HOST GOLF OUTING (6-19-2012)

The Shepherd University football team will be hosting their annual Rams Golf Tournament at the Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, MD on July 13, 2012. The day will include golf, carts, prizes, gift packet, assorted beverages (at lunch) and a barbecue dinner for each foursome.

NEW CONFERENCE FORMATION SOUGHT (6-18-2012)

The presidents of eight universities in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania announced on Monday, June 18, 2012, that they will create a new all-sports athletic conference and seek membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Former Shepherd University tight end Dominique Jones recently signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Jones has played in the UFL and the Indoor Football League since leaving Shepherd.

The three-day event will feature around 200 of the top athletes around the country.

Senior cornerback Elijah Davis (Silver Spring, MD/Wheaton) and senior offensive lineman Steve Jackson (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County) were first team selections, sophomore defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) was a second team choice, while senior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) was a third team selection.

Three members of the Shepherd University football team have been selected to play in the Don Hansen Bowl. The Shepherd University football team is ranked 22nd in the final 2011 AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Rams posted a 9-2 overall mark on the year.

DAVIS GAINS FIRST TEAM DAKTRONICS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS (12-14-2011)

Senior cornerback Elijah Davis (Silver Spring, MD/Wheaton) of the Shepherd University football team was selected to the 2011 Daktronics All-America Team released today. Davis is the first Ram to gain First Team Daktronics All-American Honors since Deante Steele in 2008.

The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members this fall at the annual induction banquet on Friday, September 16 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. Football standout Mark Brower '84, Darren Iden '89 (men’s tennis), and Tara Saville ’95 (volleyball), join Adam Straskulic '01 (baseball) as the 26th class to be inducted. The "fantastic four" bring the total number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 125.

Senior cornerback/return specialist Deante Steele (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team has been selected to play in the Cactus Bowl on January 7, 2011 at 7 p.m. CST at Javelina Stadium. Steele is the first Ram to participate in the Cactus Bowl since Dervon Wallace in 2008.

SHEPHERD RANKED SEVENTH IN FINAL AFCA POLL (12-20-2010)

The Shepherd University football team is ranked seventh in the final 2010 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll for December 20. Shepherd made the second biggest jump in the final poll as the Rams moved from No. 18 to No. 7 after finishing the season with a 12-2 mark and an appearance in the Division II semifinals. The No. 7 final ranking (NCAA II) is the best in program history.

NCAA II Super Region I champ Shepherd University will travel to Delta State, Super Region II champion, on Saturday, Dec. 11 in the NCAA National Semifinals.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CST at Parker Field-McCool Stadium and the game will be televised by CBS College Sports.

Three members of the Shepherd University football team were named to the 2010 Daktronics, Inc., Division II All-Super Region 1 football team selected by the region’s sports information directors. As many Shepherd University Football fans and families plan for our home opener on Saturday, September 11 at noon, we are asking for your cooperation in keeping all tailgating activity in compliance with our tailgating policies and also in compliance with a temporary ban on any use of charcoal grills. The extremely dry conditions in the entire Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia has led to a ban on most forms of outdoor fire. The Shepherd University football team will hold a pair of intrasquad scrimmages before opening the season on August 28 at rival Shippensburg University. The Rams will scrimmage on Saturday, August 14 at 1 p.m. and Friday, August 20 at 3:30 p.m. Both scrimmages be at Ram Stadium.

Senior quarterback Brett Zirkle (Fishersville, VA/Stuarts Draft) of the Shepherd University football team has been named by The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as a member of the 2010 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better. A total of 620 players from 246 schools qualified for membership in the society's fourth year, an 80 percent increase from the inaugural class in 2007.

Jerry Seymour rushed 25 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns to lead Glenville State to a 21-14 upset win over 10th-ranked Shepherd University in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers handed Shepherd its first regular season home loss since the Rams dropped a 30-27 decision to Slippery Rock on September 11, 2004.
SHEPHERD-GLENVILLE STATE FOOTBALL GAME TO BE TELEVISED ON TAPE DELAY BASIS (9-12-2008)

The Shepherd-Glenville State football game will be televised on a tape delay basis. The game will air on WJAL Family TV 68 out of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday. This is the first of of three Shepherd home games that are scheduled to be televised this season.

Shepherd University director of athletics Karl Wolf announced today that Shepherd will be offering a reserved parking section for home football games this season. A limited number of parking spaces at the Erma Ora Byrd Hall parking lot (off Rt. 480) on the east side of campus are available.
