Four incoming recruits for the Shepherd University football team recently played in the Big 33 Football Classic at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. The well-known all-star game featured teams from Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Shepherd University director of athletics B.J. Pumroy recently announced several award winners for the 2012-13 year.

The Shepherd University football team will be hosting their annual golf outing at the Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, Maryland, on July 12, 2013. The day will include golf, carts, prizes, gift packet, assorted beverages (at lunch) and a barbecue dinner for each foursome.

Senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football seniors from all divisions of play who maintained a 3.2 GPA or better.

The Ram Gridiron Club event initially planned for Saturday (April 6) in the lobby of Erma Ora Bryd Center at 9 a.m. has been changed. The Ram Gridiron Club meet and greet will be from 10-11:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Shepherd University Dining Hall.

The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

Bidding on the opportunity to be a guest offensive or defensive coordinator for this Saturday's Spring Game is coming to a close. Bidding ends today at 5 p.m.

The Shepherd University football team will host three scrimmages over the next few weeks. The Rams will scrimmage on Friday (March 29) at 4:30 p.m. The annual Spring Game will be on Saturday, April 6 with a noon kickoff. The final scrimmage will be on Friday, April 12 at a yet to be determined time. All scrimmages will be at Ram Stadium.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Shepherd University Football Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. Tickets are $25 per person.

Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater announced that 26 student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2013. Among the group are 13 from Maryland, eight from Virginia, two from West Virginia, and one each from Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

 The Mountain East Conference has announced the hiring of National Football League referee Gene Steratore, Jr. as its first Supervisor of Football Officials. The 30-year officiating veteran will be in charge of selecting, training, evaluating and assigning all officials for every football game hosted by MEC member schools when the league’s inaugural season kicks off in the fall. Steratore will begin his duties immediately.

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater has announced the 2013 football schedule. The 10-game slate includes five home games. The 2013 and 2014 Mountain East Conference football schedules have also been released.

Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) garnered first team honors, sophomore offensive lineman Isaiah Shelton (Temple Hills, MD/Charles H. Flowers) gained second team honors, while senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim), senior linebacker A.J. Parrish (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County), junior defensive end Howard Jones (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom), and junior defensive lineman Mike Franklin (Silver Spring, MD/Long Reach) earned third team honors.
 

The Shepherd University football team is ranked 25th in the final 2012 AFCA Division II Coaches’ Poll. Shepherd posted an 8-3 mark as WVIAC champions and advanced to the first round of the NCAA II Football Championship before falling to Indiana (Pa.), who finished seventh in the poll.

Junior defensive lineman Robert Hayes (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the first Shepherd football player to gain Academic All-America® honors since Ron Branch in 1997.

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

Senior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team was one of 50 collegiate place-kickers named to The Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Award. The watch list is comprised of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) collegiate place-kickers. Watch list members were nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community.

Four members of the Shepherd University football team were named by The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as a members of the 2011 NFF Hampshire Honor Society,  which is comprised of college football seniors from all divisions of play who maintained a 3.2 GPA or better. Defensive lineman Rob Ciancaglini (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), linebacker Bryan Hansel (Cumberland, MD/Allegany), outside linebacker Jordan Tucker (Fairmont, WV/Fairmont Senior), and defensive end Will Wheeler (Chantilly, VA/Westfield) were the Shepherd seniors honored.

Senior cornerback/return specialist Deante Steele (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team has been selected to play in the Cactus Bowl on January 7, 2011 at 7 p.m. CST at Javelina Stadium. Steele is the first Ram to participate in the Cactus Bowl since Dervon Wallace in 2008.

The Shepherd University football team is ranked seventh in the final 2010 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll for December 20. Shepherd made the second biggest jump in the final poll as the Rams moved from No. 18 to No. 7 after finishing the season with a 12-2 mark and an appearance in the Division II semifinals. The No. 7 final ranking (NCAA II) is the best in program history.

Sophomore defensive back Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) of the Shepherd University football team has been selected to the AP Little All-America Team after gaining Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors earlier this week. Robinson was a second team selection on both teams.

Two of Shepherd University’s most successful coaches, head football coach Monte Cater and head baseball coach Wayne Riser, will welcome back alumni and friends for this week’s homecoming Ram Chalk Talk lunch series. The lunch series is held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Wellness Center on the campus of Shepherd University.

The Shepherd University football team climbed to 19th in the latest D2football.com poll for October 12. The Rams are coming off a 49-35 win over Concord last Saturday.

Shepherd University moved up to 18th in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll for October 11. The Rams will host 21st-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan at noon on Saturday for Homecoming.

Sophomore free safety Corey Washington (Alexandria, VA/Edison) of the Shepherd University football team was named WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his standout play in Shepherd's 49-35 win over Concord on Saturday. 

Junior running back Tommy Addison (Germantown, MD/Quince Orchard) rushed 23 times for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 49-35 win over Concord in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd University will be hosting the third Ram Chalk Talk luncheon this year on Friday from noon -1 p.m. at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. Alumni and fans can join head football coach Monte Cater, Shepherd director of athletics B.J. Pumroy, and head volleyball coach Sarah Smith this Friday.

The Shepherd University football team is ranked 25th in the latest D2football.com poll for September 28. This marks the first time a Ram football team has been nationally-ranked since the third week of the 2008 season.

Junior kicker/punter Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac)  of the Shepherd Universtiy football team was named WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his standout play in Shepherd's win over Seton Hill.

Junior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) knuckled in a 32-yard field goal with 2:11 left in regulation to lift Shepherd University to a 19-16 win over Fairmont State in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd graduate Robert Terpening will be the featured speaker for this week’s Ram Chalk Talk Lunch Series along with head football coach Monte Cater on Friday, September 17 at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. 

Sophomore linebacker Leons Kabongo (Woodbridge, VA/Gar-Field) of the Shepherd University football team has been named WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week after a standout effort in Shepherd's 55-0 win over St. Joseph's (IN).

Senior quarterback Kevin Clancy (Westminster, MD/Westminster) completed 15-of-26 passes for 246 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 55-0 win over St. Joseph’s (IN) College at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Senior fullback Bobby Humphries (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson) and redshirt-freshman defensive lineman Mike Franklin (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) of the Shepherd University football team earned weekly honors from the West Virginia Conference. Humphries was named WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Franklin garnered WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.

Senior fullback Bobby Humphries (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson) ran three times for 90 yards and a pair of scores and junior running back Nate Hoyte (Waldorf, MD/McDonough) added 16 carries for 93 yards and a score to lead Shepherd University to a 35-27 win over Shippensburg at SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday in the Great Valley Classic.
 

Senior cornerback/return specialist Deante Steele (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team has been named to the D2football.com Preseason All-America team. Steele earned first team accolades as an all-purpose player.

Tickets are now on sale for the Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. Four new members will be inducted at the banquet on Friday, September 17 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. The quartet will also be honored at the Shepherd-Fairmont State football game on Saturday, September 18 as part of Hall of Fame Weekend festivities.

The Shepherd University football team will hold a pair of intrasquad scrimmages before opening the season on August 28 at rival Shippensburg University. The Rams will scrimmage on Saturday, August 14 at 1 p.m. and Friday, August 20 at 3:30 p.m. Both scrimmages be at Ram Stadium.

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) recently announced that 16 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2009-10 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT.

Junior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team was one of 40 collegiate place-kickers named to The Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Award. The watch list is comprised of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) collegiate place-kickers. Watch list members were nominated by their colleges for excellence on the football field and in the community.

The Shepherd University department of athletics has teamed up with the Ram Gridiron Club to present the Ram Chalk Talk lunch series.

Twenty-five Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

The Shepherd University High School Football Skills Camp was held last Saturday at Ram Stadium. The camp had over 80 attendees this year.

Senior defensive back Justin Arner (Clarion, PA/Clarion Area) of the Shepherd University football team and senior guard Krissy Grosselin (Dayton, OH/Ramstein {Germany}) of the Ram women’s basketball team were selected as First Community Bank Senior Scholar Athletes by the West Virginia Conference.

Sophomore return specialist Deante Steele (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac) of the Shepherd University football team was named to the 2008 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-American Football Team. Steele, a first team selection, was one of only two sophomores to be honored.

Brown (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run with 6:31 remaining in the game to lead 13^th-ranked Shepherd University to a 20-16 win over Shippensburg University in football action in the Great Valley Classic at Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
