SHEPHERD WOMEN HANDLE PITT-JOHNSTOWN, 91-69 (2-15-2012)

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward Emily Daniel (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring) scored 24 points and freshman center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, MD/Wootton) added 22 to lead Shepherd University to a 91-69 win over Pitt-Johnstown in WVIAC women’s basketball action on Senior Night at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.

Daniel hit on 8-of-14 shots with a 2-of-2 effort from beyond the arc. She was 6-of-6 from the foul line. Her 24-point effort ties her career-high.

Flinchum hit on 11-of-13 shots from the floor to post a career-high effort. She added a game-high 12 rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots, and a pair of steals.

Senior guard Jenn Prine (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) poured in 15 points, while adding three assists, three steals, and three boards.

Junior guard Priscilla Moseh (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee /Frederick CC) added 12 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Alex Tamez (Berkeley Springs, WV/The Miller School [Va.]) had eight assists, six rebounds, five steals, and two points.

Sara Trimarco had 18 points and Nicole Carman added 13 for the Lady Cats.

Shepherd used a 14-1 run in the first half to take a 30-16 advantage after a three-pointer by Moseh with 7:02 remaining in the half. The Rams had a 40-33 lead at the break.

The Rams used a 20-7 run midway through the second half to take a 22-point advantage at 78-56 lead after a three-pointer by Prine with 5:59 left in the game. Prine had seven points to fuel the run.

Shepherd shot 50.7 percent (38-75) from the floor, with a 40 percent (6-15) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 9-of-12 (75 percent) foul shots.

Pitt-Johnstown shot 43.9 percent (25-57) from the floor with a 38.5 percent (10-26) performance from beyond the arc. The Lady Cats hit on 9-of-11 free throws (81.8 percent).

Shepherd had a 47-24 advantage on the boards.

Shepherd falls to 15-10 overall, 12-7 in WVIAC action, while Pitt-Johnstown drops to 12-11, 10-9. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ohio Valley for a 2 p.m. contest.
