VIENNA, W.Va. – Senior guard Jenn Prine (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) had 12 points and a team-high four assists and senior guard Katie Biggs (Sykesville, MD/Glenelg) added 10 points and seven boards to lead Shepherd University to a 52-48 win over Ohio Valley in WVIAC women’s basketball action at Ohio Valley on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Jimyse Brown (Rankin, Pa/Winchester Thurston) added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Rams.
Junior guard Priscilla Moseh (Springfield, VA/Robert E. Lee /Frederick CC) added a game-high four steals.
Amber Avery and Dakeisha Mann each had 12 points for the Fighting Scots. Avery and Tara Benedict each had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Ohio Valley took a 30-28 lead into the break behind eight-point first half effort from Mann.
Shepherd took the lead for good at 44-42 on a jumper by Brown with 4:11 remaining. The Fighting Scots rallied to within two points at 48-46 on a jumper by Tara Benedict with 1:03 left, but junior guard Alex Tamez (Berkeley Springs, WV/The Miller School [Va.]) had a steal and hit a pair of jumpers down the stretch to seal the win for the Rams.
Shepherd shot 34.5 percent (20-58) from the floor, with a 40 percent (4-10) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) foul shots.
Ohio Valley shot 33.9 percent (20-59) from the floor with a 14.3 percent (3-21) performance from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots hit on 5-of-9 free throws (55.6 percent).
Ohio Valley had a 39-35 advantage on the boards.
Shepherd improves to 17-10 overall, 14-7 in WVIAC action, while Ohio Valley falls to 11-15, 7-13. The Rams conclude regular season play on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
