SHEPHERD SOFTBALL REACHES 30-WIN MARK; SPLITS WITH ALDERSON-BROADDUS (4-17-2012)

 

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University split with Alderson-Broaddus in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Tuesday. The Rams gained a 3-1 win in game one, while Alderson-Broaddus earned a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one when senior third baseman Chelsie Oals (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville) walked and later scored on a single by freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, MD/Northern).
 
The Rams added a run in the second when freshman designated player Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) singled and later came home on a single off the bat of freshman catcher Elisa Orlandi (Owings, MD/Northern).
 
Alderson-Broaddus cut the lead to 2-1 when Adrienne Daniels singled and later scored when Kat Powell reached base on an infield error.
 
The Rams added a run in the sixth when junior outfielder Bianca Biondillo (Canfield, OH/Canfield) led off with a single and scored when freshman pinch-hitter Shanan Plunkett (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) reached base on a fielder’s choice.
 
Schaefer paced the Rams with a 2-for-3 effort.
 
Junior pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (7.0 IP, 7 Ks, 0 BB) allowed only two hits as she improved to 13-13. Kat Powell (6.0 IP, 3 K, 1 BB) took the loss for the Battlers to fall to 7-9.
The Battlers took a 1-0 lead in the first in the nightcap when Kristy Kellogg led off with a single and was later plated on a double by Powell.
Alderson-Broaddus added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Karissa Ezell.
Shepherd scored in the sixth when Oals reached on a walk and later scored on an infield error.
Powell had a 3-for-4 performance to lead the Battlers.
Junior pitcher Tiffany Biggs (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson/Potomac State) (7.0 IP, 3 Ks, 1 BB) took the loss to drop to 15-7. Ali Neace (7.0 IP, 4 Ks, 3 BB) tossed a three-hitter to pick up the win for Alderson-Broaddus to improve to 11-4.
Shepherd moves to 30-21, 17-7 in WVIAC action, while Alderson-Broaddus is now 22-18, 12-10. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. doubleheader for Senior Day in the regular season finale.
