Edward R. Strauss

Strauss was a four-year letter winner in both football and baseball, while also lettering three years in basketball.  As team captain for the 1950 Ram football team, Strauss gained Second Team WVAIC All-Conference honors.  He was also team captain for the Shepherd baseball team in 1951.  Strauss also served as junor and senior vice president.  Strauss later went on to a very successful career as a coach and a teacher.  After graduation, Strauss taught and coached at the high school level in Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio for several years before joining the athletic staff at Youngstown State University.  He coached the women's softball team for 13 years, and currently serves as Sports Video Coordinator at Youngstown State.  Teammate Lowell Fritts said, "Having Ed on the team was like having an extra coach on the field. Such was his leadership and knowledge of the game."
