Shepherd Women Fall at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Shepherd University dropped a 96-68 decision in women's basketball action to host West Chester at the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament on Friday night.
Junior guard Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led the Rams with 13 points, while junior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, MD/Wootton) posted her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior guard Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College) and freshman guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) each added nine points, while junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) hauled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Kendall Benovy had 16 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Golden Rams. Dallas Ely also tossed in 16 points.
The Rams shot 41.3 percent (26-63) from the floor, 41.7 percent (5-12) from three-point range, and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the line.
The Golden Rams hit at 37.8 percent (34-90) from the floor, 25.9 percent (7-27) from beyond the arc, and 72.4 percent (21-29) from the charity stripe.
West Chester had a 56-44 edge on the boards. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 40.
Shepherd falls to 0-2, while West Chester improves to 1-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they face Seton Hill at 5 p.m.
