URBANA, Ohio – Katy Barkley scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Urbana to a 99-90 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at Urbana on Monday night.
Junior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) led the Rams with 23 points. Flinchum connected on 8-of-18 shots from the floor with a 7-of-10 effort from the foul line. Flinchum also tied junior guard Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College) for team-high rebounding honors with seven boards.
Lexie Taylor added 23 points and Kennedy Boggs added 19 for the Blue Knights.
The Rams shot 48.5 percent (32-66) from the floor for the game, 42.9 percent (6-14) from three-point range, and 69 percent (20-29) from the line.
Urbana connected at 54.2 percent (32-59) from the floor, 31.6 percent (6-19) from beyond the arc, and 72.5 percent (29-40) from the charity stripe.
The Blue Knights had a 39-38 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 21.
Urbana ended the first half on a 14-1 run to take a 47-41 lead into the break.
The Blue Knights led by as many as 13 points in the second half. Shepherd cut the lead to six points at 89-83 with 2:38 remaining on a layup by Flinchum, but would get no closer.
Shepherd falls to 1-9, 1-5 in MEC action, while Urbana improves to 9-1, 6-0. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host West Liberty for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
