Shepherd Handles West Virginia Wesleyan

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) completed 15-of-17 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns to lead fifth-ranked Shepherd University to a 41-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday

Shepherd took a 3-0 lead with 11:31 left in the first quarter when senior kicker Ricky Schmitt (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) nailed a 23-yard field goal. The score was set up by an interception by senior outside linebacker Bobby Jarvis (Richmond, VA/Hermitage).

The Rams extended their lead to 10-0 when Chlebowski connected with senior wide receiver Rodney Jackson (Severn, MD/Meade) on a 29-yard scoring strike.

Chlebowski, who grabbed WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, teamed with senior wide receiver Chadd Wood (Monmouth Junction, NJ/Potomac State) with 7:37 left in the second quarter to up the Ram lead to 17-0.

Chlebowski tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jackson with 4:26 left in the half to give the Rams a 24-0 advantage at the break.

Schmitt connected on a career-long 49-yard field goal with 2:02 left in the third quarter to give Shepherd a 27-0 lead.

Junior running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert), who rushed 17 times for a game-high 94 yards, danced through the Wesleyan defense for a 16-yard touchdown run with 11:56 left in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 34-0.

The game's final score came with 5:23 left in the contest when sophomore quarterback Tyler Lazear (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) teamed with senior running back Bryan Wright (Augusta, WV/Hampshire/WVU) on a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Lazear connected on 7-of-12 passes for 78 yards. 

Jackson led all receivers with six receptions for 104 yards.

The Shepherd defense limited West Virginia Wesleyan to only 22 yards of total offense, including just five passing yards. The shutout effort was the sixth for the Rams this year -- breaking the single season school mark of five set by the 1922 team.

Senior linebacker Dante McKoy (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) led the Rams with seven tackles. Sophomore defensive end Michael Spiegelberg (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) added four tackles-for-loss and three sacks. Spiegelberg was named WVIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
