SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Junior running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert) rushed 27 times for a career-high 196 yards and three touchdowns to lead 14th-ranked Shepherd University to a 24-0 win over C.W. Post in football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Senior kicker Ricky Schmitt (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) got the Rams on the board with 5:20 left in the first quarter when he nailed a 35-yard field goal.
The Rams increased their lead to 10-0 minutes later when Wallace scored on a one-yard plunge. The score was set up by an interception by senior inside linebacker Todd Edmondson (Finksburg, MD/Westminster).
Shepherd took a 17-0 lead into halftime when Wallace streaked 36 yards for a score with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. Again the Rams took advantage a Pioneer turnover as sophomore defensive end Michael Spiegelberg (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) forced a fumble and junior outside linebacker Joey Hooks (Montgomery Village, MD/Watkins Mill) recovered to give the Rams possession at the Post 41-yard line.
Wallace dashed 21 yards for Shepherd's final score with 3:12 left in the games to seal the victory. Senior All-American Dan Peters (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) return an interception 23 yards to the Post 32-yard line to set up the score.
The interception moved Peters into a tie for third place with Shepherd Hall of Famer Chris Mack on the Shepherd all-time career interceptions list with his 23rd career pick.
Senior quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) completed 12-of-19 passes for 95 yards for the Rams. Nick Georgetti was 17-of-30 for 118 yards for the Pioneers.
Jo-el Kimaiyo had game highs of six receptions and 46 yards for Post. Senior running back Bryan Wright (Augusta, WV/Hampshire) led the Rams with two catches for 28 yards.
Post running back Anthony Lazarus, who rushed for a game-high 126 yards against the Rams last year, led the Post ground game with 49 yards on 16 carries.
Hooks and sophomore inside linebacker Louis Corum (Manassas, VA/Westfield) each had 11 tackles to pace the Rams defense.
Kurt Ellis recorded eight tackles with six solos to lead the Pioneer defense.
Shepherd improves to 3-0, while C.W. Post falls to 2-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they host Glenville State College for a conference game at 1:00 p.m.
