Shepherd Moves to 4-0 with Win over Glenville State

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Junior running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert) rushed 23 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns to lead ninth-ranked Shepherd University to a 23-6 win over Glenville State College in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd opened the scoring with 9:45 left in the second quarter senior defensive lineman Howard Ward (Westminster, MD/Westminster) sacked Pioneer quarterback Mike Williams in the end zone for a safety to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.

Wallace raced 54 yards for a score at the 9:31 mark to give Shepherd a 9-0 lead at halftime.

Wallace scored on a two-yard scamper at the 13:00 mark of the third quarter to cap a six-play, 68-yard drive and increase the Shepherd lead to 16-0.

Williams connected with wide receiver Tavon McGee on an 18-yard scoring strike to cut the Ram lead to 16-6. McGee's two-point conversion rushing attempt was stopped by Ward.

Wallace added his third score of the day on a 23-yard jaunt with 3:20 left in the game.

Ram quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) completed 7-of-14 passes for 69 yards, while Williams connected on 19-of-33 passes for 212 yards for Glenville.

McGee had three receptions for 105 yards and Da Mon Lindsay added six catches for 25 yards to lead the Pioneers. Sophomore tight end Ryan Lavin (Centreville, VA/Potomac) had two receptions for 35 yards to pace the Ram receiving corps.

Jared Dearing rushed 10 times for 48 yards to lead Glenville.

Senior linebacker Todd Edmondson (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) and sophomore linebacker Louis Corum (Manassas, VA/Westfield) led the Ram defense with nine tackles each. Senior All-American free safety Dan Peters (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) added eight tackles, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

The Ram defense limited Glenville State to 59 rushing yards on the day.

Jacquez Taylor led the Pioneers with a game-high 11 tackles. Terrell Parker added five stops, including three sacks.

Shepherd improves to 4-0, 1-0 in conference play, while Glenville State drops to 1-3, 1-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they host Fairmont State for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Ram Stadium for Hall of Fame Weekend.
