SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert) rushed 24 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns, while senior running back Vincent Riggs (Poolesville, MD/Poolesville) added 16 carries for 79 yards and three scores to lead eighth-ranked Shepherd University to a 36-7 win over Millersville University in football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Riggs opened the scoring with 10:03 left in the first quarter on a 10-yard scamper to give the Rams a 6-0 lead.
Wallace, who gained WVIAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, scored on a three-yard run with 1:51 left in the first quarter to up the Ram lead to 12-0.
The touchdown was the 44th of Wallace's career and moved him into sole possession of second place on the Shepherd all-time rushing touchdowns list.
Riggs added his second score of the day on a four-yard run with 9:19 left in the second quarter. Junior kicker Bryan Beverage (Romney, WV/Hampshire) replaced John Sheehan (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) and added the extra point to give the Rams a 19-0 lead at the break.
Beverage nailed a 33-yard field with 9:19 left in the third quarter to open the second half scoring.
Minutes later Wallace scored on a two-yard run to up the Ram lead to 29-0.
Riggs registered his third score of the day on a nine-yard dash with 10:21 left in the fourth quarter.
Millersville avoided the shutout when Jimmie Cotton fielded a Beverage punt and raced 57 yards for a score. John Banzhof added the extra point.
Junior quarterback Tyler Lazear (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) completed 12-of-17 passes for 104 yards for the Rams. Jamal Smith went 2-for-6 for a 11 yards for Millersville.
Senior wide receiver Mark Springirth (Germantown, MD/Watkins Mill) led the Ram receivers with four catches for 49 yards.
Senior outside linebacker Joey Hooks (Montgomery Village, MD/Watkins Mill) led a Ram defense that allowed only 88 yards of total offense, including a paltry 11 passing yards. He had a team-high nine tackles.
Junior defensive lineman Frank Herrera (Burke, VA/Robinson) added eight stops. Sophomore defensive end T.J. Taylor (Frederick, MD/Frederick) recorded seven tackles with two tackles-for-loss and a sack.
Sophomore free safety Layton Hersh (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) recorded his first career interception when he picked off a Smith pass in the fourth quarter to set up Shepherd's final score.
Marcus Banks had a game-high 10 tackles to pace Millersville.
