ELKINS, W.Va. – Shepherd University (19-16, 13-9) swept Davis & Elkins (12-30, 8-10) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Davis & Elkins on Sunday. Shepherd gained an 8-0 win in game one and added a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
Freshman pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OHHh/Canfield) (8 Ks, 1 BB) tossed a one-hitter to gain the win in game one to improve to 7-6 on the year.
Senior outfielder Amy Edmondson (Hamilton, VA/Loudoun Valley HS/Mary Washington) went 3-for-3 with a single, a double, and a homer to lead the Rams in game one. Bettura added a single and a double and drove in a run.
Freshman shortstop Chelsie Oals (Hedgesville, WV Hedgesville) had a 4-for-5 effort with a pair of doubles to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Sophomore outfielder Amber Dudek (Sterling, VA/Park View) added three hits.
Sophomore third baseman Caitlin Davis (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) added a pair of hits and drove in four runs, while senior outfielder Rae Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA/Colonial Forge HS) had a pair of hits and an RBI.
Freshman pitcher Erica Snoddy (Salem, OH/Lisbon David Anderson) had nine strikeouts and limited the Senators to six hits in a complete game win for the Rams. She improves to 6-1 on the year.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Millersville for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
