Shepherd Football Defeats Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Redshirt-freshman running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington, Del./St. Marks) rushed 17 times for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 45-19 win over Glenville State in MEC football action at Ike and Sue Morris Stadium on Saturday.

Glenville State took a 7-0 lead when Ben Watts blocked a Shepherd punt and returned it for a touchdown with 11:04 left in the first quarter.
Shepherd cut the lead to 7-3 when sophomore kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) connected on a 23-yard field goal with 2:14 left in the first quarter.
The Rams took a 10-7 lead on a three-yard run by Lolley with10:25 left in the second quarter.
Senior free safety Corey Washington (Alexandria, Va./ Edison) picked off a pass and raced 40 yards for a touchdown with 9:07 left in the second quarter to give Shepherd a 17-7 lead at the break.
Redshirt-freshman quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Newark,Del./St. Marks) teamed with junior wide receiver Justin Ford (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) on a 61-yard scoring strike with 11:39 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 24-7 lead.
Washington forced a fumble and junior outside linebacker DeOntre Johnson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr, Henry A. Wise) recovered at the Shepherd 44-yard line to set up the score.
Lolley added a nine-yard scoring run 20 seconds later to give the Rams a 31-7 advantage.
The score was also aided by a Pioneer turnover as senior linebacker Dominique Dixon (Westover, W.Va./University) forced a fumble that was recovered by sophomore defensive end Shaneil Jenkins (District Heights, Md./Suitland) at the Glenville nine-yard line.
Sean Steele teamed with Dante Absher on an eight-yard scoring pass for the Pioneers to cut the lead to 31-13 with 8:17 left in the third quarter.
Redshirt-freshman CJ Davis (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 38-13 advantage.
Steffen Colon teamed with Seth Jordan on a five-yard scoring pass for Glenville State with 7:31 left in the fourth quarter.
Senior running back Jihad Rasheed (Detroit, Mich./Southeastern/Michigan) scored on a 17-yard scamper with 1:53 remaining in the game to complete the scoring.
Ziemba connected on 15-of-24 passes for 180 yards for the Rams. Steele completed 10-of-23 passes for 95 yards for the Pioneers.
Sophomore running back Allen Cross (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) rushed for 99 yards on 22 carries to lead the Rams. Rahmann Lee had 22 carries for a game-high 148 yards for the Pioneers.
Shepherd gained 390 yards of total offense, while Glenville State had 237. Glenville State had 137 rushing yards to become the first team to rush for over 100 yards against the Rams this season.
Dixon recorded 11 tackles to lead the Rams. Elijah Sala had nine tackles to lead the Pioneers.
Shepherd improves to 8-0, 7-0 in MEC action, while Glenville State falls to 4-5, 4-4. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia State for a noon conference matchup.
