SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Brantley Sobnorne set the all-time three-point mark and scored a team-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University to an 83-77 win over California (Pa.) in the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge at the Butche rCenter on Saturday.
Osborne tossed in three three-pointers to give him 233 for his career. He surpasses the old mark of 232 set by Ben Stephens (1989-93). He also dished out a game-high six assists and grabbed four boards.
Arman Marks had 21 points and Alonzo Murphy added 19 to lead the Vulcans.
Shepherd shot 47.5 percent (29-61) from the floor with a 27.3 percent (6-22) effort from three-point range. The Rams hit on 19-of-24 free throws (79.2 percent).
California (Pa.) shot 50 percent (30-60) from the floor with a 7-of-20 effort (35 percent) from beyond the arc. The Vulcans connected on 10-of-17 free throws (58.8 percent).
Shepherd had a 36-31 edge on the boards. California (Pa.) had 17 turnovers, while the Rams had 15.
The Vulcans used a 17-4 run to cut the Shepherd lead to four points at 79-75 after a layup by Marks with 12 seconds remaining in regulation. Osborne hit 4-of-4 free throw down the stretch to seal the win.
Shepherd opens the season at 1-0 , while California (Pa.) drops to 0-1. The Rams return to action on Sunday at 4 p.m. when they host Slippery Rock in final day action of the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge.
