SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior quarterback Trae Tinsman (Winchester, Va./James Wood) completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two scores, while redshirt-freshman running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington, Del./St. Marks) added 18 carries for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead #25 Shepherd University to a 33-0 win over #7 Shippensburg in football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 3-0 with 8:45 left in the first quarter on a 28-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island).
The Rams increased their lead to 10-0 when Tinsman connected with senior wide receiver Robert Byrd (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) on a 22-yard scoring pass.
Earls added a 37-yard field goal with 6:31 left in the second quarter to increase the lead to 13-0.
Tinsman teamed with sophomore wide receiver Dalton Boyd (Winchester, Va./Sherando/William & Mary) on a 15-yard scoring streak with 15 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 20-0 lead at the break.
Lolley scored on a one-yard plunge with 7:23 left in the third quarter to give the Rams a 27-0 advantage and added a seven-yard scoring run with 14:13 left in the game to complete the scoring.
Sophomore running back Allen Cross (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) led all rushers with 26 carries for 106 yards. Blair Brooks had six carries for 34 yards to lead the Red Raiders.
Byrd led the Shepherd receivers with three receptions for 54 yards, while junior wide receiver William McKenzie (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) had four catches for 22 yards. Trevor Harman had five receptions for 79 yards to lead Shippensburg.
The Shepherd defense limited 2012 Harlon Hill award winner Zach Zulli to a 13-of-27 effort for 140 yards and two interceptions. The Rams also allowed only 32 rushing yards on the day. Shepherd also took advantage of six Shippensburg turnovers.
Freshman linebacker Octavius Thomas (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) recoded a team-high seven tackles (six solo), while sophomore outside linebacker David Gladden (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) added six stops. Mike Goode recorded a game-high 11 tackles for the Red Raiders.
Shepherd moves to 1-0, while Shippensburg falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 1 p.m. contest. Shepherd took a 11-5 edge in the Great Valley Classic series between the two schools.
