SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Nichole Perry scored 24 points and LeAnne Ross added 19 to lead Charleston to a 84-77 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Sunday.
Chyrssa Lockhart added nine points, eight assists, and three steals for the Golden Eagles.
Redshirt-freshman guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) had 18 points, while junior guard Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College) and senior forward Jimyse Brown (Rankin, Pa./Winchester Thurston) each tossed in 17 points to lead the Rams. Brown tied Charleston's Tianna Kelly with a game-high eight rebounds, while Vaden recorded a game-high five steals.
Charleston took a 49-34 lead into halftime.
Shepherd rallied from a 19-point second half deficit to cut the lead to three points at 78-75 after a three-pointer by Vaden with 1:49 remaining., but would get no closer as Charleston hit on 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The Rams shot 42 percent (29-69) from the floor for the game, 26.7 percent (4-15) from three-point range, and 68.2 percent (15-22) from the line.
Charleston hit at 42.2 percent (27-64) from the floor, 47.1 percent (16-34) from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent (14-18) from the charity stripe.
The Golden Eagles had a 43-40 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 18.
Shepherd falls to 1-7, 1-3 in MEC action, while Charleston improves to 6-2, 2-2. The Rams return to action on Jan. 4 when they travel to Notre Dame College for a 2 p.m. contest.
