Wheeling Jesuit Edges Shepherd Men's Soccer

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Wheeling Jesuit edged Shepherd University, 2-1, in MEC men's soccer action at the Shepherd Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead at the 1:16 mark when David Healy scored on an assist from Luke Roan.

Shepherd tied the game at the 4:52 mark when junior midfielder Kyle Ransom (Shepherdstown, W.Va/Jefferson) scored off a pass from senior defender Griffin Frazier (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert).

Jeff Cancelmi tallied an unassisted goal at the 30:41 mark to give the Cardinals the victory.

Wheeling Jesuit had an 18-12 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Aleshire (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) had eight saves for the Rams, while Matthew McCormick recorded six saves for the Cardinals.

Shepherd drops to 1-4-1, 0-2-1, while Wheeling Jesuit improves to 2-3-1, 1-2-0. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. contest.
