Shepherd Women's Soccer Blanks Concord

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University scored a pair of goals in the span of a minute en route to a 2-0 win over Concord in MEC women's soccer action at the Shepherd Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, Shepherd took a 1-0 lead at the 52:03 mark when junior midfielder Kasey Canterbury (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) scored on a penalty kick.

The Rams added an insurance goal at the 53:00 mark when Kelsey N. Smith (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) scored on a free kick.

Shepherd had a 24-11 advantage in shots and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Wise (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) tallied five saves for the Rams, while Kristin Twomey had 11 saves for the Mountain Lions.

Shepherd improves to 3-1-1, 1-0-1 in MEC play, while Concord falls to 2-2-1, 0-1-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for a 1 p.m. contest.
