Concord Downs Shepherd Women

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) recorded game-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds, but Concord handed Shepherd University an 88-64 setback in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.
Flinchum hit on 10-of-16 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from the foul line.
Junior guard Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was also in double figures with 11 points.
Junior guard Alex Weakland (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added six points and a team-high four assists, while junior guard Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College) had eight points and a team-high four steals.
Jacqueline Kestner had 19 points to pace the Mountain Lions. Andrea Bertrand added 16 points and nine boards, while Sissy Wagner had a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists.
The Rams shot 37.3 percent (25-67) from the floor for the game, 30.4 percent (7-23) from three-point range, and 43.8 percent (7-16) from the line.
Concord connected at 48.5 percent (25-67) from the floor, 40.9 percent (9-22) from beyond the arc, and 75 percent (15-20) from the charity stripe.
The Mountain Lions had a 43-37 edge in rebounds. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 21.
Trailing 35-24 at halftime, Shepherd started the second half on an 11-2 run to close to within two points at 37-35 with 17:37 remaining.
The Mountain Lions responded with an 11-2 run of their own to open a 11-point lead at 48-37 with 15:27 left and Shepherd was unable to recover.
Shepherd falls to 2-11, 2-7 in MEC action, while Concord improves to 6-6, 4-5. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 2 p.m. contest.
