Shepherd Men Fall at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Xavier Humphrey scored 22 points and Aleksander Kesic added 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead University of Charleston to an 83-64 win over Shepherd University in MEC men's basketball action at Charleston on Thursday.

Senior guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) led the Rams with a game-high 23 points. He was 9-of-14 from the floor with a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. He added two rebounds and an assist.

Junior forward Morgan McDonald (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) added 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. He was 6-of-10 from the floor with a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. McDonald was 1-of-2 from the foul line.

Junior guard Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Ohio Valley) contributed eight points and tied Charleston's Denzel Douglas with a game-high five assists.
Fred Simpson added 14 points, while Douglas tossed in 13 for Charleston.
Charleston opened the game on a 19-2 run and took a 42-25 advantage into the break. Shepherd would get no closer than 12 points in the second half.
Shepherd shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the floor with a 45 percent (9-20) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 9-of-16 free throws (56.3 percent).
Charleston shot 49.1 percent (28-57) from the floor with a 7-of-18 effort (38.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles hit on 20-of-23 free throws (87 percent).
Charleston had a 43-26 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 14.
Shepherd falls to 14-5, 9-4 in conference action, while Charleston improves to 13-4, 10-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Glenville State for a 4 p.m. contest.
