CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Nichole Perry scored a game-high 23 points and LeAnne Ross added 18 to lead University of Charleston to a 94-56 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at Charleston on Thursday.
Junior guard Rachel Johnson (Frederick, MD/Frederick) scored a team-high 13 points to pace the Rams. She added four rebounds, three assists, a pair of blocked shots, and a steal.
Kayla Dozier was also in double figures for the Golden Eagles with 10 points.
Charleston opened the game on a 17-4 run and took a 41-21 lead into intermission.
The Golden Eagles used a 24-7 run early in the second half to open up a 67-30 advantage as they pulled away for the victory.
The Rams shot 37.3 percent (19-51) from the floor for the game, 36.4 percent (4-11) from three-point range, and 73.7 percent (14-19) from the line.
Charleston connected at 48.5 percent (32-66) from the floor, 39.1 percent (9-23) from beyond the arc, and 87.5 percent (21-24) from the charity stripe.
The Golden Eagles had a 39-29 edge in rebounds. Shepherd forced 11 turnovers and committed 24.
Shepherd falls to 2-15, 2-11 in MEC action, while Charleston improves to 12-5, 8-5. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Glenville State for a 2 p.m. contest.
