SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Seger Bonifant and Devin Hoehn each scored 20 points to lead top-ranked West Liberty to a 120-89 win over Shepherd in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.
The Hilltoppers got 17 points from Kelvin Goodwin , while CJ Hester and Keene Cockburn each added 16. Cockburn also hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Shepherd shot 39.1 percent (34-87) from the floor with a 22.2 percent (6-27) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 15-of-24 free throws (62.5 percent).
West Liberty shot 47.8 percent (43-90) from the floor with a 16-of-35 effort (45.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers hit on 18-of-21 free throws (85.7 percent).
West Liberty had a 61-48 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 12.
The Hilltoppers had a 46-39 lead at halftime. West Liberty opened the second half on a 19-5 run to take control ot the contest.
Shepherd falls to 10-3, 5-2 in conference action, while West Liberty improves to 11-0, 7-0. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise for a 4 p.m. contest.
