Shepherd Football Downs UVa-Wise

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) completed 16-of-21 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 51-0 win over UVa-Wise in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Shepherd took a 7-0 lead when Ziemba teamed with senior wide receiver William McKenzie (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass)on a 63-yard scoring strike with 7:43 left in the first quarter. Junior kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) added the extra point.

The Rams increased their lead to 14-0 when Ziemba connected on a 27-yard scoring pass to sophomore wide receiver Billy Brown (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) with 1:16 left in the first quarter.

Ziemba and sophomore wide receiver Tony Squirewell (Cheltenham, Md./Bishop McNamara) combined on a 14-yard scoring pass with 4:49 left in the second quarter to up the lead to 21-0.

Shepherd took a 28-0 lead into the break as Ziemba hit junior running back Allen Cross (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) on a 57-yard scoring pass with 2:42 left in the half.

Sophomore cornerback/return specialist CJ Davis (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) rambled  62 yards for a score on a punt return to open up the second half scoring with 13:33 left in the third quarter.

The Rams increased their lead to 42-0 when sophomore running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington Del./St. Mark's) scored on a seven-yard jaunt with 4:45 left in the third quarter.

Redshirt-freshman quarterback Caleb Dembeck (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) connected on a 58-yard scoring pass to by redshirt-freshman running back Malik Harleston (Washington, D.C./McKinley Tech) with 7:58 left in the fourth quarter.

Shepherd completed the scoring with a team safety with 1:49 left in the contest.

Ty Ryans completed 10-of-26 passes for 84 yards for the Cavaliers.

McKenzie led the Shepherd receivers with four receptions for 84 yards. Terrence Younger had five catches for 68 yards to lead Wise.

Lolley rushed 12 times for 111 yards to lead the Shepherd ground attack.

Shepherd totaled 459 yards of total offense with 121 rushing yards. UVa-Wise was limited to 107 yards of total offense with only nine rushing yards.

Redshirt -freshman linebacker James Gupton (Waldorf, Md./North Point) recorded a team-high 11 tackles (four solo) for the Rams. Chriss Flood had 12 tackles and Zack Blair added 11 for UVa-Wise.

Shepherd improves to 6-0, 6-0 in conference play, while UVa-Wise falls to 0-6, 0-5.  The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Notre Dame College for a 1 p.m. contest.
