CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Shepherd University assistant athletics director
Melanie Ford was inducted into the University of Charleston Hall of Fame last weekend. Ford was among four inductees honored at a banquet on Friday and on Saturday at halftime of the Shepherd-Charleston football game.
A four-year letterwinner for the UC women's basketball program from 1996-2000, Ford was an integral part of a Golden Eagle team that earned an NCAA Tournament berth in 1998.
Ford was also a member of the WVIAC Championship team in 1998 and gained First Team All-WVIAC honors in 1998-99.
Ford captained the 1999-2000 squad and was named UC Female Athlete of the Year for her outstanding effort on the hardcourt. Ford finished her career with 1,140 points.
"It is a wonderful honor for
Melanie Ford to be honored by her alma mater for her excellence on the court as well as around campus," said Shepherd University director of athletics
B.J. Pumroy. "I have had the good fortune of working with Melanie as a head coach and now as an assistant athletics director and she is an integral part of our success as a department. I felt great pride in witnessing the induction and hearing the sentiments from University of Charleston President Ed Welch and director of athletics Bren Stevens about Ms. Ford. She has affected so many lives as a teammate, coach, and administrator that she truly is a Hall of Famer."
