Morgan McDonald (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Shepherd University to an 81-63 win over Lock Haven in men's basketball action in the first round of the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge at the Butcher Center on Friday night.
McDonald connected on 9-of-15 shots from the floor with a 1-of-3 effort from three-point range. He added two blocked and a pair of steals.
Senior guard
Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Warren Local/Ohio Valley) had 12 points, four assists, and three steals, while junior forward
Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) also tossed in 12 points.
Freshman guard
Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had 10 points off the bench, while sophomore guard
Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had six points, five boards, and a game-high six assists.
Bootsie Walker had 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals to lead the Bald Eagles.
The Rams shot 53.3 percent (16-30) in the first half to open up a 47-23 halftime advantage.
Shepherd hit on 29-of-61 field goals (47.5 percent) with a 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) from the foul line in the victory. The Rams hit on 6-of-18 three-pointers (33.3 percent).
Lock Haven have connected on 26-of-68 field goals (38.2 percent) with a 4-of-20 effort from beyond the arc (20 percent). The Bald Eagles were 7-of-20 from the foul line (35 percent).
Wheeling Jesuit defeated Kutztown, 102-74, in the early game. Eric Seifert had a game-high 26 points to lead the Cardinals. Josh Johnson led Kutztown with 20 points.
Shepherd improves to 1-0, while Lock Haven drops to 0-1. The Rams will host Kutztown at 6 p.m. on Saturday in final day action of the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge.
