Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Shepherd University fell to Fairmont State in four sets in semifinal action of the Mountain East Conference Volleyball Tournament at Wheeling Jesuit on Friday night. The Falcons recorded a 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 win.
Freshman opposite
Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) had a match-high 16 kills with a .357 attack percentage to lead the Rams.
Senior opposite/outside hitter
Valerie Bour (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Willoughby South) added 12 kills and nine digs, while senior middle hitter
Kayla Motheral (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) contributed 11 kills and a .400 attack percentage.
Senior setter
Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) had 44 assists and nine digs. Freshman libero/defensive specialist
Kelsey Anderson (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) posted a match-high 24 digs and senior outside hitter/defensive specialist
Lauren Wilkins (Winchester, Va./Sherando) recorded 19.
Kaitlyn Witsaman had 15 kills and Mackenzie Harrison added 12 to pace the Falcons.
Shepherd falls to 18-13, while Fairmont State improves to 24-6. Fairmont State advances to the tournament finals at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
