Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard
Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Warren Local/Ohio Valley) scored a game-high 26 points and dished out five assists to lead Shepherd University to an 80-75 win over Kutztown in men's basketball action at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge at the Butcher Center on Saturday night.
Cunningham connected on 7-of-14 shots from the floor with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. He was 9-of- 14 from the foul line.
Freshman guard
Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tossed in 16 points, while senior forward
Morgan McDonald (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Junior guard
Garett Burkhead (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill/Mount Olive) was also in double figures with 10 points, while freshman forward
Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) grabbed a team-high six rebounds and sophomore guard
Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) handed out a game-high six assists.
Kutztown was led by Tynell Fortune with 25 points. Josh Johnson added 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Shepherd hit on 26-of-52 field goals (49.1 percent) with a 18-of-29 (62.1 percent) from the foul line in the victory. The Rams hit on 8-of-21 three-pointers (38.1 percent).
Kutztown connected on 26-of-52 field goals (50 percent) with a 6-of-16 effort from beyond th arc (20 percent). The Golden Bears were 17-of-22 from the foul line (77.3 percent).
Shepherd improves to 2-0, while Kutztown falls to 0-2. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
