Box Score Shepherd Men's Basketball Evens Conference Mark with Balanced Scoring
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - The Shepherd University Men's Basketball team topped West Virginia Wesleyan 76-73 at the Butcher Center on Monday Night running their overall record to 4-1 and 1-1 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Rams had five players in double figures and were led by Freshman A.J. Carr (Fairfax, VA/Saint James School) who had 18. He was six of seven from the floor and six of nine from the free throw line. It was Carr's first double figure performance as a collegian. He also led in rebounds with five.
Senior,
Austin Cunningham (Belpre, OH/Warren Local/Ohio Valley University) had 12 points and led the team with six assists. Freshman Skylar Roman (Chambersburg, PA) also had a dozen points while Junior,
Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll/Presbyterian) had 11 points and Senior,
Morgan McDonald (Inwood, WV/Musslemen) was the fifth Ram in double digits with 10.
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Junior Chris Dewberry's (Detroit, MI/Southfield Christian) 20 points, 18 of which came on three-pointers. Senior, Tanner McGrew (Buckhannon, WV/Buckhannon-Upshur) had 14 rebounds to lead the Bobcats.
Shepherd shot 50 percent (24-48) from the floor for the game. They hit on 23.1 percent (3-13) from behind the arc and 75.8 percent (25-33) from the charity stripe. The Bobcats shot 42.6 percent (23-54) from the floor, 37.5 percent from three and a hot 90 percent (18-20) from the free throw line. Wesleyan out-rebounded the Rams by a hefty 36-23.
West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Mountain East Conference with the loss.
Shepherd will take off the Thanksgiving break before returning to conference action on Thursday, December 4
th when they host West Virginia State at 7:30 pm for Military Appreciation Day. All Active Duty and Retired Military will be admitted free to the contest by showing proper identification.
