MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman guard
Steffen Davis (Accoceek, Md./Maret School) scored a game-high 14 points, but West Virginia University handed Shepherd a 109-60 setback in men's basketball exhibition game action at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Davis connected on 5-of-11 shots from the floor with a 4-of-10 effort from three-point range.
Senior forward
Morgan McDonald (Inwood, WV/Musselman) added 10 points and four rebounds, while freshman forward
Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) had nine points and five rebounds. Junior forward
Ryan McTavish (Mt.Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) had eight points and five boards.
Jaysean Paige had 13 points, while Devin Williams added 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to pace the Mountaineers.
Shepherd hung tough in the first half and only trailed 40-29 at the break.
The Mountaineers hit on 23-of-40 (57.4 percent) field goals and were 18-of-19 (94.7 percent) from the foul line in the second half to pull away for the victory.
Shepherd opens the 2014-15 campaign on Friday when they host Lock Haven in first day action of the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
