Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) recorded career-highs of 27 points and 10 assists to lead Shepherd University to a 94-82 win over Shippensburg in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Mason connected on 10-of-19 field goals with a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. She hit on 4-of-4 free throws.
Senior guard
Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added 18 points, five boards, and two steals. Junior forward
Kristina Prange (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) came off the bench to score a career-high 14. She also had five rebounds.
Lauren Gold tossed in a game-high 28 points and handed out five assists to lead the Raiders. Stephanie Knauer added 23 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Shepherd had a 47-38 lead at the break behind an 8-of-10 effort from three-point range in the first half.
Shepherd led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but Shippensburg rallied to within seven points at 85-78 after a three-pointer by Gold with 1:43 remaining.
The Rams answered back with a three-pointer by senior guard
Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./McNair/San Joaquin Delta College) to take an 88-78 advantage with 1:19 left and outscored Shippensburg, 6-4, down the stretch to gain the victory.
Shepherd shot 53.2 percent (33-62) from the floor with a 62.5 percent effort (10-16) from three-point range. The Rams shot 90 percent (18-20) from the charity stripe.
Shippensburg connected on 42.4 percent (28-66) from the floor with a 38.5 percent (5-13) performance from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit on 75 percent (21-28) of their foul shots.
Rebounds were even at 35-all. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 13.
Shepherd improves to 7-2, while Shippensburg drops to 5-4. The Rams return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Chowan for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
