Glenville State Edges Shepherd Men

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Donte Morales scored 20 points and Kevin Gray added 19 to lead Glenville State to a 96-92 win over Shepherd University in MEC men's basketball action at Glenville State on Saturday.
Junior forward Morgan McDonald (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) had a game-high 23 points and a team-high 11 rebounds to lead the Rams. He posted his eighth double-double of the season and his 23 points tied a career-high.
Senior guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy)added 17 points and a game-high five assists. Freshman guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had 12 points, junior guard Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Ohio Valley) and senior forward Kevin Jones (Washington, DC/IUP) each had 11, while senior guard Marcus Pilgrim (Mitchellville, Md./Bishop McNamara) tossed in 10.
Lamont Cole and Jordan McCloud each added 15 points for the Pioneers. McCloud also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.
Shepherd took a 48-45 lead into the break behind as Osborne (11), McDonald (10), and Jones (9) combined for 30 first half points.
Glenville State took the lead for good in the second half at 62-60 after a three-pointer by Morales with 14:20 left in the contest. Shepherd got to within two points at 92-90 after a pair of free throws by Pilgrim with 17 seconds left, but Cole drained a pair of free throws in the game's final seconds to seal the win.
Shepherd shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the floor with a 27.8 percent (5-18) effort from three-point range. The Rams connected on 29-of-33 free throws (87.9 percent).
Glenville State shot 50.8 percent (30-59) from the floor with a 10-of-23 effort (43.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers hit on 26-of-35 free throws (74.3 percent).
Glenville State had a 36-31 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 15.
Shepherd falls to 14-6, 9-5 in conference action, while Glenville State improves to 12-6, 9-5. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
