Shepherd Women Downed by Notre Dame

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Rachel Johnson (Frederick, MD/Frederick) scored a season-high 25 points and added a game and career-high seven steals, but Notre Dame College recorded an 86-75 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.
Johnson hit on 10-of-23 shots from the floor with a 2-of-5 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-4 from the line. Johnson also added six boards and three assists.
Freshman guard Maggie McLoughlin (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Central) added 12 points, while junior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, MD/Wootton) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Courtney Clark tied Johnson for game-high scoring honors with 25 to pace the Falcons. Martha Nagbe added 19 points and 10 boards, while Molly Ritz had 17 points and eight rebounds.
Shepherd closed the first half on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 47-all at the break.
Notre Dame took the lead for good in the second half at 49-47 on a layup by Ritz with 19:06 left remaining.
The Rams shot 37.5 percent (24-64) from the floor for the game, 40 percent (6-15) from three-point range, and 91.3 percent (21-23) from the line.
Notre Dame connected at 47.4 percent (27-57) from the floor, 46.2 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (26-39) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 40-39 edge in rebounds. The Rams forced 22 turnovers and committed 24.
Shepherd falls to 2-17, 2-13 in MEC action, while Notre Dame improves to 12-8, 9-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Urbana for the Play 4Kay Game /Alumni Day at 2 p.m. Admission to the Alumni Game at 10 a.m. is free.
