#4 Mount Olive Downs Shepherd Baseball

AIKEN, S.C. – No.4-ranked Mount Olive used a 17-hit attack en route to a 14-3 win over Shepherd University in the Prestige Appliance Classic at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Saturday.
 
The Trojans plated eight runs on eight hits in the first two innings to take control of the contest.
Shepherd scored a pair of runs in the first inning behind a two-run double off the bat of senior designated hitter Ryan Messina (St. James, NY/Smithtown East/Tampa).
The Rams added a single tally in the second when junior second baseman Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) reached base on a passed ball and later scored on a wild pitch.
Braden Reitano went 4-for-5 with a three-run blast and five RBIs to lead the Trojans. Justin Manning added a 3-for-5 effort with a pair doubles and three RBIs.
Junior catcher Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored to lead the Rams. Senior outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) added a 1-for-2 outing with a run scored.
Jordy Farthing (1-0) picked up the win for the Trojans. Reliever Josh Frederick worked the final four innings to gain the save. Junior starter Austin Hale (Nokesville, VA/Brenstville District/Frederick CC) (0-1) took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd falls to 0-2, while #4 Mount Olive improves to 3-1. The Rams return to action Sunday when they take on Tampa at 11 a.m. in final day action of the Prestige Appliance Classic.
