Shepherd Volleyball Advances to MEC Quarterfinals with Win over UVa-Wise

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University recorded a 3-0 win over UVa-Wise in first round action of the MEC Volleyball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night. The Rams gained a 25-9, 25-16, 25-15 victory.

Junior middle hitter Kayla Motheral (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) recorded 11 kills with a .647 attack percentage to lead Shepherd.
Senior outside hitter Kayla Walker (Palmyra, VA/Fluvanna County) and sophomore right side Anna Roper (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) each added eight kills, while senior outside hitter Melani Lewis (Bay Shore, N.Y. /Brentwood) added seven kills and 12 digs.
Junior setter Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) recorded 37 assists and freshman libero Lauren Summa (Bear, Del./Padua Academy) had 12 digs.
Karley Allen had three kills and 17 digs to lead the Cavaliers.
Shepherd improves to 14-16, while UVa-Wise falls to 7-22. The Rams advance to the MEC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit to face fourth-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
