Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to Bloomsburg in softball action at Shepherd on Saturday. The Huskies rallied for a 9-5 win in game one and added a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one. Sophomore third baseman Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) had a two-run single to key the rally.
The Huskies answered back with six runs in the second. A two-run double by Erika Yanora highlighted the scoring outburst.
Bloomsburg added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Shepherd plated a run in the fifth as junior first baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md./Padua Academy) singled and later scored on a double off the bat of freshman designated player Jennifer Schofield (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air).
Snyder led the Rams with a 2-for-4 effort.
Mandi Baer went 3-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Huskies.
Mandi Black (5.0 IP, 5 Ks, 3 BB, 5 H, 3 ER) (1-0) picked up the win for Bloomsburg. Sarah Bertoni (2.0 IP 0 R, 3 Ks, 0 BB, 1 H) gained the save. Freshman starter Kirsten Barstad (Joppa, Md./Mercy) (2.0 IP, 8 H, 6 ER) took the loss for the Rams.
Taylor Parker limited the Rams to five hits in the nightcap.
The Huskies scored three runs in the second behind a three-run homer by Caitlin O'Conner. They added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth.
Freshman infielder Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry/Jefferson) went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.
O'Connor had a 2-for-2 outing and drove in four runs to lead Bloomsburg.
Freshman pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (7.0 IP, 8 H 5 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd falls to 2-5 on the year, while Bloomsburg improves to 2-0. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Salem International at 1:30 p.m.
