Shepherd Baseball Sweeps West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.Shepherd University swept West Virginia Wesleyan in MEC baseball doubleheader action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday. The Rams earned an 8-6 win in game one and added a 10-8 triumph in the nightcap. The Rams run their winning streak to seven games.
 
Junior third baseman Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) went 2-for-5 to lead the Rams in game one.
Senior designated hitter Ryan Messina (St. James, NY/Smithtown East/Tampa) and freshman second baseman Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) each scored a pair of runs, while junior catcher Jason Hepple (Margate, FL/Highland Christian Academy/Garrett CC) drove in two runs.
John Koon went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Bobcats.
Junior pitcher Bryan DiRosario (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary School) (6.0 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 Ks, 2 BB) (2-0) picked up the win for the Rams, with sophomore reliever Ryan Pansch (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (1.0 IP, H, 1 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) gaining the save. Bobcat starter Ryan Leighton (4.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) took the loss.
Senior outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Rams in the nightcap.
Carney went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while junior infielder Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Junior reliever Austin Hale (Nokesville, Va./Frederick CC) (3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) (4-1) gained the win for the Rams.
Shepherd improves to 16-7, 14-4 in conference play, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 3-11, 2-11. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
