Box Score URBANA, Ohio – DeVonyea Johnson scored 25 points and Kate Francisco added 24 to lead Urbana to a 102-84 win over Shepherd University in first round action of the MEC Women's Basketball Tournament at Urbana on Tuesday night.
Redshirt-freshman guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, MD/Urbana), recently named MEC Freshman of the Year, poured in 24 points to pace the Rams. She connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor and drained her only three-point attempt. Mason was a perfect 9-for-9 from the line. She also dished out a team-high six assists.
Junior center
Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, MD/Wootton) added 15 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard
Rachel Johnson (Frederick, MD/Frederick) contributed 10 points.
Ebany Brumfield added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Knights.
The Rams shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor for the game, 37.5 percent (3-8) from three-point range, and 75 percent (27-36) from the line.
Urbana connected at 48.2 percent (40-83) from the floor, 28.6 percent (8-28) from beyond the arc, and 63.6 percent (14-22) from the charity stripe.
The Blue Knights had a 45-48 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed 21.
Shepherd completes its season at 4-22, while Urbana improves to 17-9. Urbana advances to the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
