Shepherd Softball Drops Pair at #14 West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to #14 West Virginia Wesleyan in MEC doubleheader action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The Bobcats earned a 5-3 win in eight innings in game one and added a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

Kristina Wilson (2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 Ks, 0 BB) picked up the win in relief for the Bobcats in game one. Freshman pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown) (7.1 IP, 8 H,5  ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB) (9-9) took the loss. Glenville State starter Brittany May (5.0 IP, 4 ER, 2 Ks, 0 BB) took the loss.

Jacqui Omichinski belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to lift Wesleyan to the win.

Hanson went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Rams.


Omichinski added a two-run blast in the nightcap to help the Bobcats gain the sweep.

Freshman third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson) went 3-for-4  and scored two runs, while junior first baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Rams. Senior shortstop Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) belted a two-run homer.

Omiichinski (5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 Ks, 1 BB) gained the win for West Virginia Wesleyan. Sophomore pitcher Shannon Lyons (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) (6.0 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 5 K, 3 BB) (5-7) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd moves to 18-24 overall, with a 7-15 conference mark, while 14th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 33-9, 18-4. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
