Lott Sets Career Stolen Bases Mark; Shepherd Baseball Splits with Urbana

URBANA, Ohio – Shepherd University split with Urbana in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Urbana on Saturday. Shepherd posted a 5-0 win in game one, while Urbana earned a 6-5 win in 10 innings in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as senior outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) led off with a walk and scored on a single by junior outfielder Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC).

The Rams increased their lead to 2-0 in the third as Lott singled, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior catcher Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/ USC Aiken).

Shepherd added two runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Lott and added another run in the fifth on an RBI by freshman second baseman Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando).

Senior pitcher Paul Hvozdovic (Herndon, Va./Herndon) (9-0) scattered two hits while fanning 12 and walking none. Nick Bozman (6-3) (7.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 Ks, 7 BB) took the loss.

Taylor Nehls walked and later scored on a bunt single by Cody Ridinger in the bottom of the 10th to lift Urbana to the win in the nightcap.

Jordan Pergrem went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs for the Blue Knights.

Junior third baseman Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and senior shortstop T.J. Weisenberg (Hedgesville, W.Va./Martinsburg) added a 3-for4 effort with a runs scored for the Rams.

Reliever Jeff Beall (5.1 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 Ks, 4 BB) (3-3) picked up the win for the Blue Knights. Redshirt-freshman Mac West (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge/Francis Marion) (4.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 3 Ks, 1 BB) (1-1) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd moves to 31-10, 29-7 in conference play, while Urbana is now 21-14, 18-10. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Urbana.

Notes: Michael Lott became Shepherd's career leader in stolen bases with 58. He surpasses the old mark of 57 set by Hall-of-Famer Rich Pell (1994-97).
