Shepherd Softball Splits with Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. – Shepherd University split with Wheeling Jesuit in MEC doubleheader action at Wheeling on Saturday. Shepherd gained a 16-6 win in game one, while Wheeling Jesuit earned a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd rapped 14 hits en route to the 16-6 triumph in game one.

The Rams scored nine runs in the final two innings to gain the lopsided win. Junior first baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) had a three-run double to key a four-run sixth, while Freshman third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson) smacked  a two-run single to key a five-run seventh inning.

Sophomore outfielder Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) and Snyder each went 2-for-5 and drove in four runs. Witt added a 3-for-4 effort with four runs scored and two RBIs.

Freshman designated player Rachel Kline (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) added a two-run homer.

Rachel Conrad and Marla Small each had three hits for the Cardinals.

Freshman pitcher Kirsten Barstad (6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) (4-6) picked up the win for the Rams. Erika Jusko (4.0 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 3 Ks, 1 BB) (7-10) took the loss for the Cardinals.

Angie Reddick had two hits, scored a run, and drove in another to lead Wheeling Jesuit in the nightcap.

Kline had a two-run double and junior catcher Shanan Plunkett (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) belted a solo homer to pace the Rams.

Ali Smith (7.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 3 Ks, 2 BB) (9-13) gained the win for Wheeling Jesuit. Sophomore pitcher Shannon Lyons (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) (6.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4  ER, 3 K, 5 BB) (5-9) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd moves to 19-27 overall, with an 8-18 conference mark, while Wheeling Jesuit is now 16-29, 9-17. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
