SALEM, Va. – Concord eliminated Shepherd University in second day action of the Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex on Friday. The Mountain Lions held off Shepherd for a 6-5 victory.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run double by junior outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) keying the rally.
Concord tied the game in the second at 3-3 on a three-run homer by Whitney Carrigan.
Shepherd took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on a leadoff homer by sophomore outfielder Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown).
The Mountain Lions scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-4 advantage. Alyssa Morris and Allie Reid had solo homers to key the rally.
The Rams plated a run in the seventh as junior first baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) singled and later scored on an infield error. Shepherd stranded a pair of runners as Concord secured the one-run win.
Snyder, Schaefer, and Taylor each had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.
Reid (6.2 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 2 BB) (18-19) gained the win for the Mountain Lions. Freshman pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (4.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) (9-12) took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd completes its season at 21-29, while Concord improves to 31-22.
