Shepherd Women Defeat Concord

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va.  – Freshman guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored 14 points and senior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) added 13 to lead Shepherd University to a 64-59 win over Concord in MEC women's basketball action at Concord on Monday night.

Arden hit on 5-of-10 shots with a 4-of-10 effort from the foul line. She also grabbed six rebounds.

Flinchum hit on 5-of-9 field goals and 3-of-5 free throws. She had five rebounds.

Sophomore forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 10 points and had a team-high nine rebounds, while senior guard Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./McNair/San Joaquin Delta College) tossed in 10 points and had six rebounds.

Alley Odell had 17 points and eight boards, while Jacqueline Kestner added 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions.

Concord had a 30-25 lead at the break.

The Mountain Lions led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but the Rams rallied to take 60-59 lead on a three-point play by sophomore guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) with 1:07 to play. The Rams hit 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Shepherd shot 35.4 percent (23-65) from the floor with a 20 percent effort (3-15) from three-point range. The Rams shot 57.7 percent (15-26) from the charity stripe.

Concord connected on 37.5 percent (21-56) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (4-14) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions hit on 61.9 percent (13-21) of their free throws.

Concord had a 50-40 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 26 turnovers and committed just 12.

Shepherd improves to 11-4, 8-1 in MEC action, while Concord falls to 3-9, 3-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for a 2 p.m. contest.
