Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Hallie Gunnoe scored 28 points and Hailey Garrett added 22 to lead Fairmont State to an 80-59 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at Fairmont State on Thursday night.
Senior guard
Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and sophomore guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each scored 14 points to pace the Rams. Johnson also hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York)was also in double figures for the Rams with 10 points.
Emily Lohr added 15 points for the Falcons.
Fairmont State had a 35-31 lead at the break.
The Falcons shot 53.1 percent (17-32) in the second half to pull away for the win.
Shepherd shot 31.1 percent (23-74) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (4-16) from three-point range. The Rams shot 75 percent (9-12) from the charity stripe.
Fairmont State connected on 47.7 percent (31-65) from the floor with a 27.8 percent (5-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons hit on 81.3 percent (13-16) of their free throws.
The Rams had a 46-43 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 15.
Shepherd falls to 12-5, 9-2 in MEC action, while Fairmont State improves to 14-3, 8-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 2 p.m. contest.
