Shepherd Women Outlast Urbana

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Senior center Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) and sophomore forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) each scored 14 points to lead Shepherd University to a 71-66 win over Urbana University in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Flinchum connected on 6-of-10 shots from the floor with a 2-of-4 effort from the foul ine. She also had four rebounds. Myers was 6-of-8 from the floor with a 2-of-5 effort from the line. She grabbed nine boards.

Senior guard Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added 13 points, while freshman guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
 
Senior guard Alex Weakland (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) contributed nine points an dnine rebounds, and sophomore guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) chipped in with three points and a game-high seven assists.

Kennedy Boggs had a game-high 23 points to lead the Blue Knights. Tori Burk added 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Shepherd had a 38-30 lead at halftime.

Urbana used a 14-1 run to rally from a 16-point second half deficit to get to within three points at 69-66 after a jumper by Kate Francisco with 14 seconds remaining. Boggs had five points to key the rally.

The Rams hit 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Shepherd shot 45.3 percent (29-64) from the floor with a 15.8 percent effort (3-19) from three-point range. The Rams shot 50 percent (10-20) from the charity stripe.

Urbana connected on 41.1 percent (23-56) from the floor with a 35.3 percent (6-17) performance from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights hit on 70 percent (14-26) of their free throws. Rebounds were even at 39-39. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 11.

Shepherd improves to 9-3, 6-0 in MEC action, while Urbana falls to 1-11, 1-5. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to West Liberty for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
