Shepherd Football Downs Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va.  – Junior quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) completed 17-of-28 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 48-31 win over Glenville State in MEC football action at Glenville on Saturday.

Shepherd improves to 5-0, 5-0 in conference play, while Glenville State falls to 4-2, 4-2.

Glenville State took a 3-0 lead on a 20-yard field goal by Chandler Carrera with 12:45 left in the first quarter.

Shepherd took a 7-3 when sophomore wide receiver Angelo Jean-Louis (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central/Marshall) blocked a Glenville State punt  and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown with 6:02 left in the first quarter. Senior kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) added the extra point.

Earls connected on a 32-yard field goal with 3:56 left in the first quarter to give the Rams a 10-3 advantage.

The Pioneers tied the game at 10-10 when Sean Steele teamed with Quin Thornton on a 27-yard scoring pass with 2:57 left in the first quarter.

The Rams took a 17-10 lead when junior quarterback Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) fired a 70-yard scoring strike to junior running back Jabre Lolley (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) with 14:05 left in the second quarter.

Shepherd took a 20-10 advantage when Earls connected on a 22-yard field goal with 1:45 left in the second quarter.

Glenville State cut the lead to 20-17 when Damon Lampkin took the ensuing kickoff and raced 100 yards for a touchdown with 1:21 left in the half.

The Rams took a 27-17 lead when senior defensive back Keon Robinson (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) fielded a Pioneer punt and raced 86 yards for a touchdown with 11:37 left in the third quarter.

Glenville State answered back on an 18-yard scoring run by Tevin Drake with 8:09 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 27-24.

Shepherd took a 34-24 lead when Ziemba and Lolley teamed on a 56-yard scoring strike with 7:41 left in the third quarter.

Shepherd extended its lead to 41-24 when Ziemba teamed with junior wide receiver Tony Squirewell (Cheltenham, Md./Bishop McNamara) on a 15-yard scoring pass .with 3:32 left in the fourth quarter.

Steele found Ernesto Torres in the end zone for a 20-yard scoring pass with 1:33 remaining to cut the lead to 41-31.

Lolley broke through the line and rambled 37 yards for a score with 1:11 left in the game.

Cross rushed 20 times for 108 yards for the Rams. Lolley added 16 carries for 74 yards. Drake rushed 26 times for 112 yards for the Pioneers.

Steele completed 23-of-48 passes for 249 yards for the Pioneers.

Lolley led the Shepherd receivers with three catches for 156 yards. Junior wide receiver Billy Brown added seven receptions for 93 yards.  Dante Absher and Ralph Gordon each had five catches for 61 yards for Glenville State.

Shepherd amassed 453 yards of total offense while Glenville State had 386 yards of total offense.

Sophomore linebacker James Gupton (Waldorf, Md./North Point) led the Shepherd defense with 11 tackles (seven solo). Wes Lane had a team-high 11 tackles (10 solos) for the Pioneers.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia State at noon for Hall of Fame Weekend.
