Leonard Leads Shepherd Women's Soccer Past Concord

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Freshman forward Samantha Leonard (Conowingo, Md./Perryville/Wingate) scored a pair of goals to lift Shepherd University to a 4-1 win over Concord in MEC women's soccer action at Concord on Sunday afternoon
.
Shepherd improves to 6-5-2 overall, 5-4-2 in conference action, while Concord falls to 3-6-4, 2-6-3.

Concord took a 1-0 lead into the break behind a goal by Sarah Akers on an assist from Margot Provencher at the 23:26 mark.

Shepherd tied the game when freshman midfielder Abby Hoffman (Gardners, Pa./Bermudian Springs) scored on a feed from senior midfielder Lexi Vondrak (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) at the 49:58 mark.

The Rams took the lead on an unassisted tally by Leonard at the 55:49 mark.

Leonard added another goal on a feed from sophomore defender/midfielder Danielle Fernandez (Clarksburg, Md./Damascus) at the 56:55 mark and senior forward Kylie Duffin (Ventor, N.J./Holy Spirit) scored on an assist from Fernandez at the 65:28 mark to complete the scoring.

Redshirt-freshman netminder Kelsey Rhoderick (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson/Campbell) (one save) and freshman goalkeeper Christi LaBella (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) teamed for the win in goal for the Rams. Emily Simpkins had three saves for the Mountain Lions.
 
Shepherd had a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Notre Dame College for a noon match.
