Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Lady Walker scored 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Virginia Union to a 96-88 win over Shepherd University in women's basketball action at the Conference Challenge at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Walker hits on 12-of-24 shots from the floor and also added four blocked shots.
Junior forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards to pace the Rams. Freshman guard
Kristen Nunn (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) tossed in 24 points in her collegiate debut, while sophomore guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) had 20 points and a career-high 10 assists.
Junior guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) contributed six points and nine assists, while sophomore guard
Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) tossed in nine points.
Rahni Bell added 24 points for the Panthers, while Kiana Johnson had 15 points and a game-high 12 assists.
Bell hit a three-pointer with 24 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session. The Panthers outscored Shepherd,17-9, in overtime to pull away for the win.
The Rams connected 43.6 percent (34-78) from the floor with a 31.3 percent effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 68.2 percent of their free throws (15-22). Virginia Union hit on 49.4 percent (39-79) of their field goals with a 46.2 percent (6-13) effort from beyond the arc. They drained 44.4 percent (12-27) of their free throws.
Virginia Union had a 54-35 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 27 turnovers and committed 22.
Shepherd returns to action on Sunday when they host Winston-Salem State in final day action of the Conference Challenge at 2 p.m.
