West Virginia Wesleyan Downs Shepherd Men

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Tanner McGrew scored 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead West Virginia Wesleyan to a 78-71 win over Shepherd University in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Shepherd falls to 3-2, 0-2 in conference play, while West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 3-1, 1-1.
McGrew connected on 11-of-20 field goals and was 6-of-6 from the foul line. He also handed out a game-high seven assists.

Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) led the Rams with 22 points on a 7-of-12 shooting effort with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. He hit 4-of-4 free throws.

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) had 16 points, while sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) had 14 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Mo Berchie added 15 points and Fred Brondsted had 14 for the Bobcats. Former Jefferson High standout Garrett Grantham added nine points.

Shepherd shot 50 percent (27-54) from the floor with a 36.4 percent (8-22) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 9-of-11 free throws (81.8 percent). West Virginia Wesleyan shot 46.4 percent (26-56) from the floor with a 47.8 percent (11-23) effort from beyond the arc. The Bobcats hit 15-of-16 (93.8 percent) free throws.

West Virginia Wesleyan had a 38-21 on the boards. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed seven.

The Rams return to action on Dec.3 when they travel to West Liberty for a 7:30 p.m. game.
